On this day in 1616 – Galileo Galilei is formally banned by the Roman Catholic Church from teaching or defending the view that the earth orbits the sun. It pitted supporters and opponents of Galileo within both the Catholic Church and academia against each other through two phases: an interrogation and condemnation of Galileo's ideas by a panel of the Roman Inquisition in 1616, and a second trial in 1632 which led to Galileo's house arrest and a ban on his books.

On February 28, the sky will host a rare planetary parade, with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all above the horizon during the same evening.

They won’t form a perfect straight line, but they’ll stretch across the sky in a wide arc after sunset. The brightest ones — Venus, Jupiter, and Mars will shine clearly to the naked eye. Saturn and Mercury may be a bit lower and trickier, while Uranus and Neptune will need binoculars or a small telescope.

All you need is a clear view of the horizon and a dark spot away from city lights. Step outside shortly after sunset, give your eyes time to adjust, and look up.

Moments like this don’t come often. The next time we see this many planets sharing the sky in one evening, it’ll be more than a decade from now.

Introduction To Beekeeping

This 3 day course provides an individual the opportunity to see into one of nature's most wonderous attributes: Honeybees! Each participant will learn the basics of beekeeping. Knowledge gained will propel a participant through their first year of beekeeping. All course manuals will be provided. Hands-On experience during the class. Feel free to visit our retail beekeeping supply store to obtain all your protective gear prior to the day of training. Hand tools will be provided during the apiary visit. Liability waivers are required. One child; age 17 and under may attend free with a paid adult enrollment. Please provide the Childs Name and Age in the comments section at checkout. Children must be accompanied by adults during training.

Cost is $110 per person
Once Registration is Complete, there will be a $50 Cancellation Fee.

There will be NO REFUND if canceled after FEBRUARY 9, 2026

This is a rain or shine event! Please be prepared for outdoor instruction.

Class will start on Friday and Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and will go till approx. 4 p.m. Class on Sunday will start at 8:30 a.m. and will go till approximately 12pm. We will meet at the Hampton Inn, Sneads Ferry in their SEAHAWK CONFERENCE ROOM.
